The Functional Medicine Process

Step 1:
Phone Consultation - (Free)

This is the very first step in becoming a patient at our office! The phone call gives our Functional Medicine Doctors a chance to discuss your case and see if your specific problems are a good match for functional medicine.

If your case is accepted, then your first visit will be scheduled.

Step 2:
Initial Interview

October Specials (15).png

This is an opportunity to tell your story and thoroughly review your case.

If available, you should bring all your important health information, including: past labs, MRI, Xray, NCV, Functional Medicine Tests, and specialist reports. It is important to see your health trend, even if you had no symptoms.

We also recommend bringing a loved one with you.

If possible, please bring hard copies of the Functional Medicine paperwork you received after your phone interview. Paperwork must be completed at least 2 days prior to your initial interview.

There is no billing for insurance on this visit.

Step 3: Examination

Doctor Examining Foot

After years of experience, we've learned it's important to schedule the initial interview and examination at separate times. Initial appointments can be long and tiring, especially for our patients with underlying issues. Please wear comfortable clothing like shorts and a t-shirt.

A portion of the examination may be covered by health insurance. You are responsible for any copays or deductibles. Our office participates with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and UHC.

Additional testing may be ordered if necessary. Some lab orders your insurance company will cover, and some may be Functional Medicine labs. Results of these tests may take 2-3 weeks.

Step 4:
F.M. Roadmap

Medical Team Meeting

When creating your Functional Medicine Roadmap, we outline every step of your recovery plan. We review next steps for nutrition, lifestyle, and supplements, and answer any questions you may have.

We will also take a close look at your lab results, and discuss any abnormalities. We try to analyze the Why's of your specific disease process, rather than simply leave you with a diagnosis.

You are free to take notes during the visit; however, we have found it best for patients to simply relax, and ask questions. Dr. Ratcliffe will also provide a copy of your Roadmap for you to review on your own.

If possible, please bring a loved one with you; this is a very important meeting.

This visit is not covered by insurance and is $350.
